Steady progress

This week I completed the desk work for the Kerry section of the book meaning seven of the 12 routes have now been researched.
I've also started to think about preparing the bike for the summer ahead.
The weapon of choice is a 1980s 10-speed Raleigh Routier, pretty much in its original configuration.
A long and loaded ride at Christmas confirmed that lower gearing would be nice but, at the same time, I don't want to mess around too much with what is a very solid bike. With this in mind I decided to stick to 10-speed rather than have to 'cold-set' the rear forks out from 120mm to 126mm (for 6-7 speed) and possibly buy new wheels. This also saves me having to replace a perfectly good Sachs-Huret rear derailleur.
I picked up a 14-32 Suntour Pro-Compe five-speed freewheel on ebay so my first job is replacing the current 14-28 freewheel and also strip down and re-grease the rear bearings. The other items on the 'things to do' list are:
* Relpace mudguards (SKS preferred)
* New rear carrier
* New front carrier (low rider)
* Re-tape handlebars
* Strip down and re-pack bottom bracket
