Macpac Microlight tent

Camping at Browns Bay, Islandmagee

They know a thing or two about rain in New Zealand and not surprisingly they know a thing or two about making waterproof tents. I've had two Macpac tents and they are the only ones I've owned that are genuinely downpour proof.
Now all tents claim to be waterproof but if you are camping in Ireland, even in summer you need something you could pitch under a waterfall and still stay dry. Believe me I have seen a lot of wet campers in the Emerald Isle (it is green for a reason you know). And while the thought of a damp night takes the shine off any day, the prospect of a snug, dry night cheers the spirit during the wettest of rides.
As well as keeping you dry this tent packs small and light (realistically around the 2.5 kilo mark), is well ventilated, has enough room in the vestibule for your panniers and is easy to pitch. It is a one-man tent so if you are not a solo traveller I seriously suggest you look at one of the other tents from the Macpac range.
Whatever brand you choose, I would also recommend a double-skinned tent (ie separate fly) - you'll have less condensation and it is a much better design in any application where a few grammes extra weight isn't absloutely critical.

macpac micro light tent

i have owned the microlight # yrs. this is a very well thought out solo tent.it is made from the best materials....floor....rain fly.similar to hillibergs keron 1800 material. This tent was not at all designed to hold firm in heavy winds' but is designed to flex under load and bounce back. ie ' the heavy elastic peg loops and single pole design
very well thought out and designed' and very compact and light. There are lighter tents out there with insides mostly mesh and not so stable in the wind. you can't go wrong with the microlight $$$ once you realize the geneous in the design. More internal space than it at first looks,,top notch materials, the best floor (torrentwear xp) best fly uv30 double ripstop hi tenacity multiple coats of silicon elastamer...inside and out...and multi pitch to boot......
